And the answer was……….

After thinking about our horrible dining experience at Johnny Rockets that I blogged about previously we decided to sit down and write them to let them know, since it was our first visit, and see how they handled it.
Here is the reply that we received:

That’s all????? Oh please. Last time I got a bucket of chicken that was less than appetizing from KFC they sent me a $10 coupon. Does Johnny Rockets think that with just that crappy letter they can entice me to return? No personal phone call?? (We got one from KFC) No coupon toward a future visit for us to give them a second chance?? (Remember this was our very FIRST visit) HAHAHAHA
Not on their LIFE!!!
Two Different Dining Experiences
Jul 10th
Yesterday we decided to go eat at the new Sonic drive-in which has opened up not far from here. Oh, what a BAD idea that turned out to be.
We have been to Sonic once before down in Alabama and believe me that was a horrible food experience. In AL we ordered our burgers and slushes and received burgers where the buns were so soaked with grease they were mushy and the slushes had so much extra sugar in them that, that was all you tasted no flavor, just sugar.
We always give a restaurant chain at least two chances. This one has been open for a little over a month so we figured that they would have most of the kinks worked out. (yeah, right)
First you pull into a parking space and have to order off of one of those speaker/menu things reminiscent of the ones of the 50’s. Three times I told our order to the lady, and all three times she would screw up one if not two of the items ordered. Honestly, how hard is it to leave off onion and add pickles? Finally she had the majority of it straight so I went ahead and paid for it. The ‘car hop’ came out on her roller skates with our food in a bag, and drinks in to go cups. I let the youngest pass out the food, while I sorted out the drink cups.
Now this food was vastly different than what we had eaten in AL. The buns weren’t soaked in grease – naw, they were just about a full inch bigger around than the burger which wasn’t even body heat warm. Yech, nothing I detest more than eating food that should be hot at a temp cooler than body heat. Sweet hubby was shorted his mustard for his corn dog, which he said really needed it; and the youngest was missing the pickles on her bacon cheese burger.
On the plus side – the slushes and the shake were pretty good and very cold.
Tonight we decided to check out the new Johnny Rockets that has opened in our town. Another mistake…….
This one hasn’t been open as long as the Sonic has been, so maybe a long with the dance routines they are still learning how to cook their items.
Onion rings – way too salty, coating fell off when they were picked up and the onions were mushy.
Burger – over cooked and even charred, bacon was fatty and stringy – but at least it was HOT.
Sweet hubby ordered a chicken salad which came with your choice of grilled or coated chicken pieces and was given no choice. The chicken was not hot, it was cold and overcooked.
His hot dog was split open and over-cooked – as in charred, but at least it was a Nathan’s hot dog, his favorite kind.
I don’t think that we will be giving this restaurant another try. We listened to 2 ear splitting renditions of “Staying Alive” complete with dance moves in less than 20 minutes – one while we were trying to order (our waitress put our order in AFTER she joined in the dancing) and the other one at the same time our food was being served.
So, for tomorrow night we will be dining in and our cook (sweet hubby) will be making us cube steak sandwiches with caramelized onions served on onion buns. Oh Yummy!! I can hardly wait!!!
Where did I leave off?
Jul 5th
Oh yeah, the glasses, the NEW glasses. The new glasses that I have to slide almost to the end of my nose if I want to read anything in my hands. The new glasses that I have to shove up to the top of my nose if I wish to watch TV or look at someone in the same room. Now this makes reading the paper and watching TV extremely difficult – I now have to do one thing or the other.
Oh, the glasses are pretty. A real light lavender color. Smallish frames – a tad smaller than the ones that I had before that is.
But these are NOT good glasses!! I know after having dealt with them for a week that I have to go on Monday and see if some can be made that work for me. The eye doctor I saw only prescribed a single vision lens which is not what I need. I even said that with my old glasses I had to sometimes put them on my head to read, depending on the size of the print. I seriously don’t think that he listened to me at all. This will prove to be an interesting Monday. (Sigh)
And I’m………
Jun 24th
just not sure exactly how I broke my glasses in two when I was cleaning them on Monday night. We were at the doctor’s office and I had used the sink to clean them as the lenses were really dirty and then as I was drying them off they just snapped right in two!! Go figure. So I had to get some scotch tape (as that is all they had) and try to tape them together so that I could drive home. The ladies in the office and sweet hubby were having a laugh at my nerdy appearance. They held together pretty well till we were leaving the grocery store after getting prescriptions – then they fell apart as I was driving through the parking lot. Had to stop quickly and stick them back together – they held till we made it home. Sweet hubby put them together with super glue so that I could at least be able to wear them to drive.
Early this morning found us heading to the glasses place to get some new ones. Picked them out with help from the ladies in that office (and sweet hubby) and they will be ready by Friday – Saturday at the latest. A new color and style I will have!!
I know…………
Jun 22nd
I know, I’ve been missing for a bit. Sorry about that.
Sweet hubby got a blood clot in his leg so he has been basically confined to the house and when he isn’t sleeping, I am his entertainment.
On top of that, my father got ill again so we had to venture up to his place and take him to his doctor even though a certain someone was
supposed to still be staying in bed with his leg elevated.
And with my father being sick that means even more laundry with lots and lots of hot water and bleach.
The little one is flying to New York this week to spend 10 days with her friends and also seeing her sister. I know of at least one trip planned for going into the city and seeing where her sister works and then spending the day in the fashion district. Ah, to be young and have lots of free time on your hands.
We have a small strawberry plant in one of those strawberry pots that is doing so-so. Every time we think that we are going to have a few berries to try some bird or squirrel comes along and steals them before they are fully ripe. Hopefully I can post a picture of some of our plants on here soon.
Just thought that I’d catch ya up on what is going on over our way.
Happy Father’s Day
Jun 15th
Found this in Dear Abby and wanted to share it.
Not Her Father
Hey, it’s really not “your day”.
I just don’t know what else to say
Because, you see, you’re just a “step”,
You’re not her dad – you’re just a “rep”,
A stand-in really, rest assured
You’re only there to be endured.Oh! Unless she needs a ride,
Or someone there to take her side,
And please have money you can lend;
‘Cause that’s when you will have a friend.She’s NOT your daughter, though be clear;
You’re not her dad, just someone here.There’s really lots for you to do;
And you get all the “good jobs”, too;
You get to worry when she’s late,
Pick her up from her late date,
Comfort her when she’s in tears,
And try to calm her teenage fears. And you will get to love her, too,
Even though she won’t love you.
You’ll get to care for her each day,
And see my daughter doesn’t stray
From rules that you will get to make—
She won’t admit they’re for her sake! She thinks stepdads just aren’t “fun”,
You’re just as boring as her mom.
You’re only there (you must concede)
To see that she’s got all she needs!
Father’s Day? Nah, she won’t bother
Thanking you – you’re not her father! So let me do it in her stead,
As I have done since we were wed.
Thanks for all the things you do,
And all you are – I love you, too.
Happy Father’s Day.by Lesley Stitt, Ontario
There was a time I could’ve written something like this about my own sweet hubby, but my girls have started surprising him over the years by treating him more and more like the dad that he has always tried to be for them!! Love ya, honey!
I now KNOW who to vote for!!!
Jun 6th
I have found my candidate via YouTube.
Don’t think that I am kidding. I was just surfing around to see what I could find out that was new, fun or interesting to share and here is what I found.
The best candidate of who is left in the running.
Why has the majority of the media kept him under wraps?? He has been in debates, been on CNN, Larry King, Bill Maher, to name a few but I never heard about him watching the regular news or the last few debates. I would’ve enjoyed listening to him more than listening to Obama and Hillary trade insults and McCain making me think that I am staring again at Bush. He is really refreshing and very intelligent and also, understands how the government is SUPPOSED to work. God Bless Him!!
This video is 8:44 minutes long and you need to really listen to it – it blows you away. This is no junior senator or 4 more years of the same, this is someone that the people can get behind.
And if you would like to watch another one about his views on inflation and what is really happening with inflation, and our currency and how it effects our very lives than watch this video.
It makes sense and it is not what one typically hears from one in our government. Watch them both – give them lots of thought – Thanks!

Oh Bother………
Jun 3rd
Here I go again – getting out of the habit of writing on the blog on a semi-regular basis!!
Really been busy with graduations, grad parties, birthday parties and geez Louise two more Saturdays and it will be Father’s Day…………. and what are we going to do for the guys????
Been talking with two different friends about the places they want to move to and what they are looking at – one has even been bidding on a house. Now the house has a really bad leak in the roof and they would have to repair that, the inside of the attic, and the wall of the room below – not sure at this point how much that would cost them and if that plus what they are bidding on the house would really be worth the money. I told them with so many foreclosed homes on the market (that is what they are bidding on) that maybe they should just keep looking. I’ve seen quite a few that are in better shape.
The other friends are looking for something to rent. Something with 2 or 3 bedrooms, a basement and at least a bath and a half. Little bit easier to help these folks look – seems I have a knack for burying my nose in newsprint for a decent amount of the day. Ask my family – I read the newspapers, cut out articles and coupons all while watching the news and sitcoms. (They forgot all the foodie shows that I watch, and I am NOT going to remind them!!)
Found out today that the old Craftsman guarantee works on the clothes that carry that label. My father had a pair of overalls that were losing those metal thingies on the end of the straps and they wouldn’t stay on so he took those back today and the store gave him a brand new pair – no charge!! You have up to two years to exchange your item for one of the same. Thought that, that was pretty cool so wanted to share it with you.
Other than that small blurb – nothing to terribly exciting has been going on.
With that said, am heading up to bed and taking a look at the TV before lights out.
My Mother’s Day
May 11th
Today was one of the quietest Mother’s Days I have ever had. For the last 7 of them we lived on Long Island and Mother’s Day was spent with both kids at home and being with the in-laws for part of the day; having brunch at one restaurant or another and then there was the one time we all stayed at our house while sweet hubby whipped up one of his many creations for brunch.
Got up before 9am, hit the shower, got dressed, walked downstairs to use the computer so that I wouldn’t disturb sweet hubby who was still sleeping and about scared the life out of the little one. She was hiding out in the computer room, making her mother’s day card and having a boat load of problems with both the computer and the printer. She settled me in at the dining room table with the day’s papers and promised that she would be done with the computer soon. Finally she emerged from the room and then led me (with eyes closed tight) into the kitchen where she had set her part of her present on the counter.

Then I read her beautiful card that had a coupon in it for us to spend the day together.
Next the oldest one called and I opened the card that she had sent – with “DO NOT OPEN TILL SUNDAY” written on it – and we laughed together over her card and I thanked her for the contents. This is what was inside:

One of my favorite places to eat!!!
Here is the dinner that my sweet hubby made with help from the youngest:

In case you can’t tell from the picture it is shrimp scampi served over Green Giant rice with mushrooms and green peas, fruit salad with a yogurt dressing and some Italian champagne. A very tasty meal!! Dessert was strawberries served over angel food cake with home made whipped cream and was gobbled down to quickly for any photographer to take a picture.
Happy Mother’s Day all!! I hope you enjoyed your day!!
PS – Forgot to mention what is on that little oblong plate. It is olive oil with herbs and parmesan cheese that we dipped Italian bread into (very healthy).
Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day!!
While I sit here waiting for sweet hubby to prepare one of his scrumptious seafood meals, in my honor, I thought that I would share one of my all time favorite Mom videos with you!!
Turn on the volume, and get ready to laugh because this mom says it all!!
